Western Railway Plans To Replace 17 Ageing Fobs, Skywalk To Link Elphinstone Bridges

The Western Railway will spend around Rs 245 crore to replace 17 foot overbridges (FOB) and build 12 new ones across its suburban section.

The general administration drawings have already been prepared. The procedure to invite tenders for this work will start in November 2017.

WR has a total of 74 FOBs, of which 24 were constructed in the last two years. Work is in progress at 14 more.

At Elphinstone Road, tenders for a 12 mtr wide FOB have already been floated. It has been decided to connect the existing FOB with the new one via a skywalk.

Railway authorities have also requested the BMC to construct mid-section FOBs at seven stations. A skywalk has also been proposed between Bandra Terminus and Bandra station.

Around Rs 10 crore will be spent on covers over platforms at several stations where the roof is leaking or does not cover a portion of the platform.

The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation is likely to provide funds under MUTP-III for 17.5 km of boundary wall missing between Churchgate and Virar. Rs 4.5 crore has already been allotted for repairs of the existing wall.
